Rev. Sr. Dr. Stephen Nnoruka
Rev. Sr. Dr. Stephen Nnoruka is a woman of deep faith, unwavering commitment, and profound compassion, whose life is a testimony to total self-giving in service to God and humanity. She was born into the devout and humble family of Late Mr. Stephen Okafor Ugochukwunvere Nnoruka and Late Mrs. Benedette Ugorie Nnoruka of Ojoto-Obiofia, in Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria. From her earliest years, she was nurtured in an environment rooted in strong moral values, faith in God, and love for community—foundations that would later shape her vocation and life’s mission.
Primary Education
Rev. Sr. Dr. Stephen received her primary and secondary education in her hometown of Ojoto-Obiofia. Growing up within her village community, she was exposed early to both the beauty of communal life and the challenges faced by ordinary people—especially the poor, the vulnerable, and those without access to education, healthcare, or justice. These early experiences quietly formed in her heart a deep sensitivity to human suffering and an enduring desire to be a source of help and hope to others.
Secondary Education
After completing her secondary education, she responded courageously to God’s call by joining the religious congregation of the New Evangelization Sisters of Mother of Perpetual Help, Issele-Uku Diocese. This decision marked a defining moment in her life, as she chose to consecrate her entire being to the worship of God and the selfless service of humanity. Her journey in religious life has been marked by discipline, humility, prayer, and an ever-growing passion for mission.
Religious Profession
She made her first religious profession on 19th September 1998, committing herself to the evangelical counsels and the charism of her congregation. With steadfast faith and perseverance, she later made her perpetual profession on 23rd September 2006, sealing her lifelong dedication to God’s service. In joyful gratitude, she celebrated her Silver Jubilee on 23rd September 2023, marking twenty-five years of faithful religious life filled with sacrifice, service, and grace.
Driven by a deep desire to understand the faith more profoundly and to serve the Church with competence and integrity, Rev. Sr. Dr. Stephen pursued advanced theological education. In 2005, she enrolled at the Catholic Institute of West Africa (CIWA), Port Harcourt, Nigeria, where she studied Theology. Following her degree, she continued with a Master’s programme specializing in Canon Law, equipping herself with the knowledge needed to serve the Church, promote justice, and guide others with wisdom and clarity.
Phd Journey
In 2013, her academic journey took her to Rome, Italy, where she enrolled at the Pontifical Urban University. There, she undertook rigorous studies that culminated in her Licentiate and Doctorate (PhD), which she successfully completed in 2018. Her academic excellence and dedication led her to further studies in Jurisprudence, which she completed in 2019 at the same institution. She also obtained a Diploma in Civil Law, broadening her understanding of both ecclesiastical and civil legal systems, and strengthening her capacity to advocate for justice and human dignity.
Beyond academic achievements, Rev. Sr. Dr. Stephen’s life reflects a deep and practical concern for human wellbeing. Motivated by her passion for holistic service, she undertook several professional and humanitarian certificate courses. These include Caregiver for the Aged (2020), Women’s Health (2021), Sexual Health and Addiction Rehabilitation Counselling, as well as Family and Adolescent Sexuality Counselling Programmes. Through these trainings, she equipped herself to respond compassionately to real-life human struggles—ranging from health challenges to emotional trauma, family crises, addiction, and the care of the elderly.

She is widely recognized as a lover of the poor, a promoter of justice, and a voice for the voiceless.
